That is a BULBILE ?

A tiny, quivering creature, both grounded and volatile, you can hold it in the palm of your hand or set it on a table, or as a desk friend when you are working, it reacts to your every movements by trembling slightly.

The Bulbiles are paper and metal structures that echo the constant evolution and movement of fermentations. They come in different sizes: micro, mini, and medium.

What is it made of ?

It is made out of fermented paper, from kombucha mother which I grow in my workshop in Alsace (East of France), the texture is very similar to paper. It's a long process, each sheet of paper takes between 3 and 5 weeks to grow to the desired thickness, and then, as it dries, the material loses 80% of its water content; it is then dyed with natural or food-grade dyes.

I harvested the granit stones in the Alsatian vineyards, as a result, each stone is unique and may vary slightly in size, shape, and color.

Each piece is unique and requires many hours of work, from harvesting and drying to cutting, assembling, and balancing of course :)

Since it comes from a fermentation process, I don’t have complete control over everything, i let nature do it’s thing, so the colors may vary, because sometimes the kombucha paper reacts differently to the dyes.

The bulbile is shipped unassembled in a display box, putting it together (which is very easy) is part of the experience :)
